Следующие несколько экспедиций на место падения были также посвящены планомерному перебору грунта в поисках останков экипажа и деталей самолета с номерами, способными помочь в установлении их личностей. В процессе этих работ было найдено еще несколько компонентов от парашютных систем и большое количество небольших деталей самолета с разнообразными номерами, в том числе части приборов с панели управления. К нашему сожалению, эти номера были бесполезны с точки зрения опознания экипажа.
Одной из удачных стала экспедиция 1 мая 2007 года. Приехав на место падения вчетвером, мы решили вскрыть одну из ям, образовавшихся при падении моторов. Ранее при проведении работ мы зондировали ее с помощью щупа и установили, что ее глубина не превышает полутора метров, а особо крупных частей мотора в ней нет. Откачав примерно полуметровый слой воды, мы приступили к работе. Сразу после ее начала стало понятно, что мотор при ударе о твердый грунт разбился на части, большинство из которых были ранее сданы в утиль. В яме не было коленвала, поршней, цилиндров и частей блока. Тем не менее, среди других мелких обломков, нам удалось обнаружить несколько направляющих для толкателей и латунную гайку, на которых был нанесен один и тот же номер: 88 7697. Также были найдены детали и с другими номерами, например 22 3019.

Через несколько часов работы я добрался до дна ямы и наткнулся на редуктор винта, ушедший при ударе в землю на глубину около 1,4 метра. При его извлечении стало понятно, что во время падения винт продолжал вращаться, так как все три лопасти были сломаны у основания, а на алюминии, толщина которого в этих местах составляет порядка трех сантиметров, остались глубокие следы от удара о каменистый грунт. Обмотав редуктор автомобильным буксировочным тросом, мы вытянули его из ямы. Несмотря на то, что по объему он казался не слишком большим, его масса оказалась существенной — в одиночку не поднять. С трудом дотащив редуктор до машины, мы вывезли его на дачу, где после отмывания от глины на нем также был найден номер 88 7697.
Необходимо отметить, что и на направляющей для толкателей, и на редукторе при ударе были деформированы части, на которых была нанесена последняя цифра 7. И если бы мы не обнаружили гайку с тем же номером, пришлось бы рассматривать два варианта последней цифры в этом номере — 7 и 1. Впоследствии мы передали этот редуктор для экспонирования в Ломоносовский историко-краеведческий музей Головатюку Владимиру Андреевичу.

Так как этот самолет был для нас первым из найденных самостоятельно, 3 мая мы обратились за консультацией к Константину Тарасову, поисковику, имеющему солидный опыт по работе с погибшими самолетами. Мы показали ему фотографии найденных при проведении работ деталей с номерами, а также различных агрегатов самолета. Посмотрев их, он с большой уверенностью сказал, что найденный нами самолет — дальний бомбардировщик ДБ-3ф (Ил-4), а номер 88 7697 является серийным номером одного из моторов М-88б, устанавливавшихся на этот тип самолетов. Также он добавил, что, судя по номеру, дата выпуска самолета — весна — лето 1943 года. Таким образом, нам стали известны тип самолета и один из номеров, по которым с помощью архивных документов можно установить личности экипажа.
