Евгений Шкловский – прозаик, критик, литературовед. Кандидат филологических наук. Окончил филологический факультет (1977) и аспирантуру факультета журналистики по кафедре литературно-художественной критики (1983) МГУ им. М. В. Ломоносова. Автор ряда литературно-критических книг («Человек среди людей», «Грани гуманизма», «Варлам Шаламов» и др.), нескольких книг прозы («Та страна», «Фата-моргана», «Аквариум», «Точка Омега» и др.). Преподавал в Литературном институте им. Горького. Сотрудник издательства «Новое литературное обозрение».
Кэрил Эмерсон (Caryl Emerson) – почетный профессор славянских языков и литератур Принстонского университета. Ее многочисленные научные труды посвящены русской классической литературе (Пушкин, Толстой, Достоевский), М. М. Бахтину, русской музыке, опере и театру. В последнее время в центре ее внимания находится творчество С. Кржижановского и В. Шарова.
The collection of articles Homo Scriptor is dedicated to the 70>th birthday of the prominent Russo-American scholar, writer and philosopher Mikhail Epstein. The collection’s content reflects the unique, truly Renaissance breadth of Epstein’s professional interests. Along with articles about Epstein’s contributions to the humanities, the reader will find here a literary essay by a famous writer Mikhail Shishkin – an homage to the genre which Epstein not only theorized but also extensively practiced. Epstein primary field is literary scholarship, and the largest section of the volume comprises articles on the history of Russian classical, modernist, and postmodernist literature. Other sections highlight such sub-disciplines as the theory of culture, poetics and linguistics, and the internet studies – each of which bearing the mark of Epstein’s innovative ideas.
