The Armoury displays collections of Russian and Western weapons both combat and ceremonial, ancient armour. West Europian silver, English, German, Dutch and French artworks brought to Russia as diplomatic gifts by foreign envoys.

The collection of Russian gold and silver ware from the XII–XIX centuries is one of the largest and most interesting ones both in the Armoury and the world in general. Precious tableware, cult objects and jewellery give a good idea of multitudiness of forms and ornamentation, illustrate the high level of ancient silversmithing.

The Armoury holds a unique collection of precious fabrics, clothes of the clergy, and vestments decorated with embroidery. The collection of the Cavarly Treasury has a great artistic and historic value too.

The unique array of Royal regalia including thrones, crowns, scepters, orbs, crosiers and coronation dresses forms a sizable section of the exposition.

This set of postcards shows the most outstanding exhibits which give an idea of the collection in its variety and richness and characterize the skill of Russian craftsmen.

В экспозиции Оружейной палаты представлена богатейшая коллекция парадного оружия работы русских и иностранных мастеров.

Особенно красивы парадные кинжалы работы восточных мастеров. Они привлекают внимание изящной формой, великолепной отделкой. Клинки кинжалов из булатной стали украшены чернью.

Ножны выполнены из золота, серебра, черного дерева. Украшены драгоценными камнями.

Oriental work. XVII century

Damascus steel, gold, silver, enamel, niello, gems

Exposition of the Armoury presents the richest collection of Russian and foreign-made ceremonial weapons. Among the most beautiful items on display are the ceremonial oriental daggers. They fix attention with their elegance and magnificent finesse. Blades of the daggers were smithed of Damascus steel and decorated with niello. Scabbards are made of gold, silver and ebony. Brightness of gold and enamels competes with brilliance of gems, richly decorating the weapons.

Горный хрусталь, слоновая кость, серебро, бархат, драгоценные камни. Литье, чеканка, гравировка, шитье золоченой нитью

Сделан гребень из слоновой кости и горного хрусталя, оправа из серебра с позолотой. Футляр из зеленого бархата украшен вышивкой. Стилизованный цветочный орнамент выполнен тонкой золоченой нитью. По краю футляра проложен шнур из крученой серебряной нити. Благодаря таланту и умению мастера утилитарная бытовая вещь представляет бой подлинное произведение искусства.
