One evening Friday went out to look for a turtle for meat and eggs.
Но меньше чем через час он вернулся обратно, и он выглядел очень испуганным.
But in less than an hour he was back,and he looked very afraid.
Хозяин!Хозяин! Кричал он 'Master!Master!'he cried.
Недалеко от острова большой корабль, и к берегу на лодке плывут люди!
'There's a great ship near the island,and men are coming to the shore in a boat!'
Я вскочил и побежал с ним к берегу.
I jumped up and ran with him down to the shore.
К моему большому удивлению, я увидел что это был английский корабль!
To my great surprise,I saw that it was an English ship!
Но что он здесь делает?
But why was it here?
Английские корабли никогда не заплывали сюда.
English ships never came this way.
Наверное, это пираты!
Perhaps they were pirates!
Они не должны видеть тебя, Пятница! Закричал я.
'Don't let them see you,Friday!'I called.
Мы скроемся среди деревьев, и будем наблюдать.
'We'll hide in the trees and watch.
В лодке было одиннадцать человек, но трое из них были пленниками.
' There were eleven men in the boat,but three of them were prisoners.
Их руки были связаны веревками, но их ноги были свободны и они могли передвигаться.
Their arms were tied with rope,but their legs were free and they could walk.
Другие моряки вытащили пленников на берег, смеялись, кричали и били их.
The other sailors pushed the three prisoners up the beach,laughing and shouting and hitting them. Потом некоторые из них сели на песок и спали выпивать.
Then some of them sat down on the sand and began to drink.
Другие отправились осматривать остров, а двое остались стеречь пленников.
Others walked away to look at the island,and two men stayed to watch the boat.
Трое пленников медленно прошли по пляжу и сели под деревом, недалеко от нас.
The three prisoners walked slowly a-long the beach and sat down under a tree,not far from us.
Они выглядели очень несчастными.
They looked very unhappy.
Очень тихо я подошел к ним сзади через деревья и окликнул их по-английски.
Very quietly,I came up behind them through the trees,and called out to them in English.
