. В загадочном фрагменте, который сохранился из его «Библиотеки истории» и в котором, возможно, содержится комментарий к римским операциям в Северной Африке, он отметил: «Те, кто желают достичь гегемонии, приобретают ее смелостью и умом (andreia kai sunesis), приращивают умеренностью и благодеяниями (epieikeia kai philanthropōid) и поддерживают страхом и приводящим в оцепенение устрашением (phobos kai kataplēxis)»
[13-4]. Последний термин может выступать окончательным словом гегемонии, по крайней мере этой. Во имя войны с терроризмом, войны как террора, без границ и конца: kataplēxis, куда ни глянь.
